The 2711-K5A3L1 communicates with partner automation devices such as Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), Gateways, converters and other 3rd party devices through the embedded DH485 communication port. This port directly supports SLC 500 or MicroLogix processors as well as PLC5, CompactLogix and ControlLogix system via communication adapters. Additionally, the 2711-K5A3L1 has an RS232 printer interface that supports communication with printers for obtaining hard copy of process and system alarms and events.

The 2711-K5A3L1 is designed to be installed in NEMA Type 12, 13, 4X (indoor use only), IEC IP54, IP65 rated enclosures. Recommended mounting clearance is 25mm (1 inch) clearances on all sides (except the bottom) while 38.1 mm (1.5 inch) is needed as bottom clearance. These clearances ensure that adequate air flow is maintained to prevent overheating of the device.
